How do we break patterns?
A question for anyone who wishes to reflect alongside me.
This is a question for these times. Yesterday we entered this year’s first eclipse portal, with a south node lunar eclipse in the sign of Virgo. No matter what axis we are working on, the south node is about letting go of the past, acknowledging what has been, bringing it to completion, so that it does not evolve into, or continue as, a pattern.
Well, I don’t know about you, yet I have had my fair share of being triggered into acknowledgment of patterns this time around. And not just because I was consciously looking. Eclipses have an inherent beauty to them: whether you want it or not, they will show it to you for what it is. So best be prepared to have some inward journeying so that the escalation can be contained to some extent.
(That being said, the shadow of Virgo we are being asked to watch out for, in any area of our lives, is control. So letting go and surrendering is as much a part of this as consciously being aware of what is stirring inside and making efforts towards stopping the pattern.)
So, HOW do we stop the pattern precisely ?
This is an exploration for you and I I would like to invite here. I do not hold a definite answer for myself and would be keen to listen to what you have been conjuring up on the topic.
Here are where my own observations have taken me so far:
Patterns are repetitions. Repetitions create the form, something that has substance. If there is no repetition, the form does not organise, and there is chaos. So patterns, per se, are not negative. Harmonious sound creates patterns. It structures molecules so that form can exist.
Form/We, are not only made of repetition though. In order for our structures to evolve, from the onset of life till its end, the molecular patterning has to keep shifting. And eventually the form takes on new contours, new shapes. It is then only logical that, just as the pattern has to hold strong enough for the form to consistently exist, something has to continuously disrupt the pattern, enough so that it evolves (yet subtly enough that the form keeps existing, and does not dissolve into nothingness.)
So we need patterns. And we need disruption of the pattern.
How do we (re) introduce the positive patterns that sustain the life of the/our form, especially if those have been replaced with destructive ones ( abuse of substances, hijacking of the mind by distractions, jolts of over-doing followed by crashed of fatigue and repeat, just to name a few) ?
How do we ease the nervous system enough that it does not see the end of the pattern as life-threatening ?
How do we create enough conscious disruption that the system evolves without sinking into confusion (I notice I am more likely to resource old patterns if I try to disrupt them in one jolt, vs gradually shifting)
My own creativity has been often times the by-product of needing to resource old habits of mine. Instead of succumbing, I consciously reach for newness, for creation. When I imprint something new, be it a new piece of sound, a new painting, a poem, instead of having an internal fight to disengage from an old habit, I notice that, with my curiosity being engaged, naturally the call for the old thing lessens or dissolves. And when the pull dissipates, I realise it was not truly that thing I was calling in. It was my own presence. Which my endeavour to create tends to bring to full force. Creativity becomes the sustenance that I wish to indulge in the most. It becomes the thrill my senses crave. An inward reward that re-establishes sovereignty over the space:
“As I create, I decide.”
Let me know how this is landing for you peeps.
How have you been doing in your own contemplation and experience of dealing with patterns ?
Love.
